First Assignment

Hello Class!

This will be your first assignment for the year. As you know, we have been looking at the novel, 'Night' by Elie Weisel.We have looked at some of the key themes in the book (pain, suffering, etc) and had some great whole class discussion in the class - well done!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Due: Friday, Oct. 1st.
For your first assignment you will be given the choice to write about one of the following:
-If you were told you had to leave your home (as Mr. Weizel's family was) and you were told you could only bring a bookbag, some food and one other item - what would that item be and why?
-His father was assigned with the task of informing the community about the sudden transport. Imagine that you are in his place. What would you say? Why?
-His family has a chance to escape to a safe house, but the father refuses. The children, afraid to part from their parents, also decide to stay in the ghetto. Do you believe that they made a wise decision?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Your answers should be in paragraph form (2 paragraph minimum). Also, you should make reference to the novel is possible.

The rubric we are using for this assignment will not post so I will hand it out in class.

Once you have submitted your work, I would like you to comment on two or three of your fellow classmates work. If possible, respond back to someone who commented on your work.

I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with!

Take care, ~Mrs. Clark

Your First Task

Let's Talk

I want to know what you are thinking. I will be asking some questions about certain texts or work we are reading in class and ask you to comment on it. Let's start off simply with...

What do you hope to get out of this class?

Your response should be 5-10 sentences and should be more then: "I like to read." I want to know 'WHY' you like to read.

This will be due Friday of this week (Sept. 10)

Hello Students! Welcome!

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to our online blog! This is place where we will discuss the literature we read in class. Hopefully, this will be a place of good discussion and positive feedback. I have a few ground rules before we get going...

1. I ask that when you are posting you use proper English. I do not want to see happy faces or abbreviations (lol) in your responses. This is a place for you to show me proper English.

2. This is a safe place. Everyone will have the opportunity to post and respond on this blog to a question I pose or perhaps one from your fellow classmates. You are to be respectful with your responses and understand that everyone is entitled to their opinion.

3. Any inappropriate language will not be tolerated.

4. This is a place for us to discuss 'school work.' This is not a place to discuss what you will be doing on the weekend. Let's keep this a place for school based learning.

Hello Parents - This Section is For You!

You child is living in a fast pace world and we are all trying to catch up with them. It would seem that technology is something they all enjoy. Therefore, to help further there understanding of the work we are doing in class this forum will be used.

The students can post questions and responses on this site. Any personal comments or concerns they have (or you have) can be written to me through my email.

The classroom as we knew it is changing and hopefully this blog will help the students not only feel confident in giving their opinion but hopefully learn from the comments of others.
